Over the last week or so, Ubisoft has been teasing Far Cry 5 via intriguing imagery and a short trailer. What all of that led to is today’s official announcement, during which the French video game giant not only revealed what’s at stake in the next installment of its open world shooter series, but also when the game will release. And, as a longtime super fan, I’m excited about what I’ve heard.
With Far Cry 5, the franchise will make its first trip to America, thanks to its new setting of Hope County, Montana. As such, fans can expect some good old country shootouts, along with visceral prairie landscapes and backwoods locales. However, despite its beauty, Hope County is advertised as a place worth avoiding unless you’re willing to fight for your life and deal with a bunch of crazies, those being the cult members who’ve taken control of the area.
Below, you’ll find a short summary from the publisher, which does a good job of piquing one’s interest.
Welcome to Hope County, Montana. When your arrival incites the cult to violently seize control of the region, you must rise up and spark the fires of resistance to liberate a besieged community.
Freely explore Hope County’s rivers, lands, and skies with the largest customizable weapon and vehicle roster ever in a Far Cry game. You are the hero of the story in a thrilling world that hits back with every punch, and where the places you discover and the locals you ally with will shape your story in ways you’ll never see coming.
Far Cry 5 will bring its cultists, bullets and open world mayhem to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PCs on February 27, 2018.
