The Walking Dead: Season Three – A New Frontier to debut with two episodes

In a first for the studio, Telltale Games confirmed at The Game Awards tonight that their newest upcoming episodic adventure game, The Walking Dead: Season Three – A New Frontier, will not only debut its first episode this month, but also its second! The first and second episodes of the game will release simultaneously on December 20th, and both will also be included on-disc when the game’s retail Season Pass disc releases in stores this February. This announcement came shortly after an all-new reveal teaser from Telltale that confirmed an episodic Guardians of the Galaxy game that is set to debut next year.twd-gameplay

The news was accompanied by a new trailer for the game that premiered during the show, which introduced the episodic adventure’s second all-new lead character, Javier’s backstory. Javier will accompany returning protagonist, Clementine, a lead from the previous two ‘seasons’ of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, who is now in her teen years. Telltale is treating The Walking Dead: Season Three – A New Frontier as an ideal jumping-on point for newcomers to these games, which are offshoot stories unfolding within the Walking Dead comic book universe, chronicled by a series of graphic novels published by Image Comics. Players may not need to be largely familiar with the former games, though Telltale also promises that veteran players who have been cultivating a continued save file since the first Walking Dead ‘season’ can also find ways to keep building on their former story choices.

The Walking Dead: Season Three – A New Frontier is planned to span five episodes, with the latter three being gradually released at various points in 2017. The game will be released for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iOS and Android. A physical retail disc that includes the released episodes, and will grant instant access to the rest as free DLC to be redeemed online when they launch, will also be released on February 7th, 2017, though will only be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
