There’s no shortage of demand for a proper revival of seminal PlayStation franchise, Crash Bandicoot, which was one of the key definers of Sony’s original PlayStation library back in the 90’s. Sony has had trouble bringing the franchise back for the modern era however, since the Crash Bandicoot rights currently sit with Activision, who has been, to put it charitably, less successful with the brand in the 2000’s, before it seemed to disappear entirely.
Thanks to a special arrangement between Sony and Activision however (one that was no doubt assisted with the PlayStation emphasis for Destiny and the two most recent Call of Duty games from last year and this year), Crash Bandicoot’s original trio of PlayStation adventures are returning in an all-new, fully remastered package for PlayStation 4! It’s not a proper new Crash Bandicoot game, but it’s something that should nonetheless make fans happy, as the highly lauded Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot: Warped are all going to be headed to PlayStation 4 at some undetermined point in the near future.
Skylanders fans with PlayStation 4’s were also treated to a bit of a nice surprise, considering the series’ origins in fellow PlayStation definer franchise, Spyro the Dragon, whose rights predictably also sit with Activision at present. The PlayStation 4 version of the upcoming new Skylanders installment, Skylanders: Imaginators, will feature Crash Bandicoot as an exclusive playable character.
