There was a bit of an uproar when 2K Games responded to the incredible multi-platform success of strategy game revival, XCOM: Enemy Unknown by announcing that its sequel, XCOM 2, would be exclusive to PC. Needless to say, console gamers weren’t amused, and pressure was quickly put on the publisher to reverse the decision, even after the highly-lauded PC version of XCOM 2 launched to the public this past February. Well, whether by design or fan demand, 2K has now caved, and has announced today that XCOM 2 will be hitting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after all!
XCOM 2’s console ports will arrive on September 6th of this year, and appropriately, storefronts both digital and physical are wasting no time offering pre-order incentives for the game. Anyone who pre-orders the game on either console will secure the, “Resistance Warrior Pack”, which adds some new cosmetic options and a new character. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be sold on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Games Store, which will include exclusive equipment customization, missions and character classes.
Like its predecessor, XCOM 2 is a turn-based strategy game, one that pits multiple classes of human characters against ruthless, highly challenging alien invaders. The sequel takes place two decades after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which has Earth surrendering to the alien attackers, who have since conquered the planet. With the XCOM defense force fractured and vulnerable, it’s up to players to scrape together the last fighting remnants of humanity and take back the planet.
