Square Enix’s cutesy, nostalgic new RPG offshoot, World of Final Fantasy has just received a release date ahead of E3, and unlike several other PlayStation-exclusive releases that were given dates recently, it will still be making it to the public this year. World of Final Fantasy will launch on October 25th, 2016.
Along with the release date announcement, Square Enix released a new pre-E3 trailer for the game, which shows an English-spoken build of World of Final Fantasy, as twin protagonists, Lann and Reyne navigate the world of Grimoire in search of their missing memories. Familiar Final Fantasy personalities like Cloud Strife, Squall Leonhart, Faris Scherwiz, Celes Chere, and more show up throughout the trailer, with the game seeming to draw characters from all throughout Final Fantasy’s nearly-30-year history as inhabitants of Grimoire.
World of Final Fantasy is being aimed both at newcomers who want a crash course on the series, as well as nostalgic fans who want a simple, charming throwback to days gone by. The game is a classic-style turn-based RPG that revives the classic Active-Time Battle System, a turn-based combat system where players can select from a menu of commands whenever their ATB bar fills, only with new strategic twists in this case.
World of Final Fantasy will release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
