When November’s Nintendo Direct came about, no one ever expected that Cloud Strife would be added to the roster of characters playable in the mega-franchise. Fans were also probably not expecting that there would be a Super Smash Bros.-focused Direct presentation in December, either.
Well, with both those things ringing true now, Nintendo has announced that the Smash-themed Direct (likely to be called Super Smash Bros. Direct) will focus on the Final Fantasy VII character’s introduction into the franchise.
According to Nintendo, Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai will be hosting the presentation which is said to focus on “Cloud and more.”
While the logo on the company’s website shows both the Wii U and 3DS versions will be discussed, the header for the page simply states “Super Smash Bros. for Wii U” indicating the news could be solely for the home console. Of course, this could also be an oversight or an issue purely based on space in a web browser’s title bar.
Nintendo is also keen on making it known that this will be the game’s last Direct, with the words “FINAL VIDEO PRESENTATION” emblazoned on the screen just below the game’s logo.
We will find out exactly what Nintendo has to offer next week when the Direct presentation airs on December 15th at 2:00 PM Pacific / 5:00 PM Eastern.
