There’s less than a year left to wait for X-Men movie spin-off, Deadpool, and now we’ve finally gotten our first complete look at the titular anti-hero! Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter today to reveal himself in costume as the Merc with a Mouth, and you can check out the first official image of the movie’s Deadpool below:
As you can see, the costume is very faithful to Deadpool’s look in Marvel Comics, following the printed panels far more faithfully than the familiar live-action personalities of the X-Men movies have for the most part. It’s also no doubt an assurance to fanboys that the movie will follow the comics quite closely, contrary to Reynolds’ (now non-canon) previous portrayal of a pre-Deadpool Wade Wilson in 2009’s ill-received X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Over the past several weeks, the characters of Deadpool have been steadily matched with the previously known lead actors to be playing their parts. T.J. Miller will be playing Deadpool’s sidekick/frenemy, Weasel, Morena Baccarin will be Vanessa/Copycat, and UFC fighter-turned-actor, Gina Carano will be portraying Morlock bruiser, Angel Dust. The movie’s villain remains unknown at this point, though Ed Skrein is said to be playing him. Hugh Jackman has also announced interest in appearing for a cameo as Wolverine, particularly since Deadpool will share a universe with Fox’s X-Men movies, though it’s unknown if Wolverine will feature into Deadpool at all for now.
Deadpool is the first of three X-Men film universe movies scheduled to release in 2016. Deadpool hits theatres on February 12th, 2016, followed by the next mainline entry, X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27th, 2016, and lastly, another spin-off, Gambit on October 7th, 2016.
