Microsoft has revealed the three free Games with Gold selections on their current Xbox platforms for this coming March. This is quite a month too, as three huge retail hits are on offer between Xbox One and Xbox 360, and all of them are among the overall best games of 2013 to boot!
As usual, in order to redeem these free games, you must have an active Xbox Live Gold membership. In the case of Xbox One, you must maintain your Xbox Live Gold membership to access and play your free Games with Gold rewards at any time, though in the case of Xbox 360, you are allowed to play any free Games with Gold rewards that you are able to redeem at your leisure, permanently, even if you subsequently allow your Xbox Live Gold membership to lapse.
The new freebies will go live for Xbox Live Gold members this coming Sunday, March 1st. Thus, if you have yet to redeem D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die on Xbox One, or Sniper Elite V2 on Xbox 360, you have until this coming Sunday to do so! After that, they will go back to their original prices. #IDARB will remain free for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One for the month of March as well.
Anyhow, to start, Xbox One owners can redeem Rayman Legends for free during March. This Ubisoft-made platformer, originally planned as a Wii U exclusive before expanding to other platforms, is considered to be one of the most excellent 2D platformers of recent years, and allows up to four players to simultaneously take control of Rayman and friends as they once again battle against The Magician, now split into multiple Dark Teensies, a hundred years after the events of the previous Rayman Origins. The game unfolds across a variety of zany landscapes, as players must rescue Teensies, take on colourful baddies, race across music-themed gauntlets, and manipulate the level design with the aid of a goofy sidekick, Murfy. Aside from Xbox One, Rayman Legends is also available for Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, and PC.
As for Xbox 360, between March 1st and March 15th, players can redeem Tomb Raider. This highly acclaimed reboot of the celebrated action-adventure series revolves around a much younger Lara Croft, long before she becomes the action heroine we know, stranded on an island teeming with evil cult worshippers. Forged in the fires of survival, Lara must endure a legion of horrible obstacles, as she attempts to rescue her friends and find a way home, discovering a hardened potential within herself that she couldn’t have anticipated along the way. Tomb Raider was one of our highest-reviewed games of 2013, and is an absolute must-play, particularly for free! It is also available on PC and PlayStation 3, with an enhanced ‘Definitive Edition’ available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One that packs in all of the game’s DLC.
During the second half of the month, between March 16th and March 30th, Xbox 360 players can then redeem BioShock Infinite. This single-player-only first-person shooter is the latest entry in the massively acclaimed BioShock franchise, and stars a mysterious man named Booker DeWitt. Unfolding in an alternate-timeline 1912, Booker is tasked with securing a mysterious girl from the flying city of Columbia, an apparent paradise with a dark secret. BioShock Infinite was very well-reviewed, and is considered to be both one of the best and most controversial video games of 2013. It is also available for PC, PlayStation 3 and Mac, and is said to be coming to Linux early this year.
Obviously, Microsoft is really spoiling Gold members this March, particularly those who have yet to experience any of these gems! Every game on this list is nothing less than excellent, and this is an ideal month to secure a Gold membership and enjoy the free rewards, if you haven’t done so already on your Xbox One and/or Xbox 360.
It gets better as well! In celebration of the massive amount of free rewards redeemed on Xbox One and Xbox 360 through Games with Gold, Microsoft has a special treat in store for Xbox Live Gold members this April. In April, twice the free rewards will be offered on both Xbox consoles for Gold members! This means that two free games will be offered next month on Xbox One, with a staggering four free games being given to Gold members for free on Xbox 360! Naturally though, Microsoft hasn’t yet specified April’s Games with Gold lineup, which will no doubt come to light towards the end of March.
