The next iteration of Star Trek will reportedly be heading into deeper space than the series has explored so far.
In an appearance on the Human From Earth podcast, Star Trek 3 (working title) director Roberto Orci, said that the characters in the film “have set off on their five-year mission … their adventure is going to be in deep space.”
There’s not much else to go on here, but Orci also says the film will feature characters that are closer to their original series counterparts. One thing is for sure: the films will still revolve around Kirk, Spock, and the familiar original series cast, not The Next Generation, Voyager, Enterprise, or Deep Space Nine, despite the fact that the movie is going into deep space.
Star Trek 3 is set for release in 2016.
