First Call of Duty 2014 image revealed

Sledgehammer Games, newcomer to the Call of Duty two-studio, two-year refresh cycle (now a three-studio, three-year cycle), has revealed the first image for their upcoming Call of Duty game, which will hit stores later this year.

The game has been under development for about three years now, and while the title hasn’t even been announced yet, Sledgehammer seems keen to show off the image (above, in full below), which it also had unveiled for a split second at GDC last month.

We don’t know anything about the direction of the next game, and while it would make sense that it’ll be based in the Modern Warfare universe given Sledgehammer’s previous work alongside Infinity Ward on Modern Warfare 3, we would love to see a brand new entry in the series to freshen things up.

The game is reportedly under development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as a priority, with last-gen consoles to (likely) get versions of their own, produced by partner studios at Activision.

We’ll let you know more as more information becomes known. We expect to hear about the next Call of Duty officially before E3, as entries in the series are typically announced in May, with a bigger reveal to follow in Los Angeles.
