UPDATE: Square Enix has just issued a press release confirming that Murdered: Soul Suspect is indeed also releasing for PlayStation 4. They’ve also confirmed that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions of the game will feature native 1080p resolution without upscaling, and improved particle physics compared to their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts.
Original story follows:
Square Enix’s Murdered: Soul Suspect is one of the more high-profile games to be exclusively releasing for last-gen consoles in 2014… But now it seems that it won’t be limited to those platforms after all.
Xbox Wire confirmed today that Murdered: Soul Suspect will also be released on Xbox One, accompanied by a lengthy reveal trailer that demonstrates the next-gen port of the mystery-adventure game in action on Microsoft’s new console. No possible Xbox One-exclusive features have been confirmed at this time, though at the very least, the game will be getting a visual upgrade in its next-gen form.
This of course begs the question as to whether the game will also be releasing on PlayStation 4 in the end. Unfortunately, Sony, Square Enix, nor Murdered: Soul Suspect’s developer, Airtight Games have provided confirmation of a PlayStation 4 port yet. For now, PlayStation gamers are still limited to the last-gen PlayStation 3 edition of the game.
Murdered: Soul Suspect casts you in the role of detective, Ronan O’Connor, who is killed by a mysterious assailant and returns as a ghost that is intangible to the world around him. Players are given a limited amount of time to solve Ronan’s murder and make the situation right using a variety of ghostly influences, before his restless soul degrades into a mindless demon and he is denied a route to the afterlife.
The game appears quite promising so far, and should provide a compelling new IP for Square Enix if it lives up to its promise. Murdered: Soul Suspect is already one of the most anticipated new game properties of 2014 however, particularly given the disappointing lack of mystery-flavoured games in recent years.
Regardless, Murdered: Soul Suspect is currently said to be releasing sometime in the first half of 2014, likely towards the end of Spring. It will be released for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Xbox One at this point, with a PlayStation 4 version at least possible. Unfortunately, it’s yet another third-party multiplatform game skipping a release on Nintendo’s commercially-struggling Wii U.
Eggplante will conjure you updates on Murdered: Soul Suspect, as they haunt us.
