“Our crew is scattered. We’re hunted by the island’s inhabitants. If I don’t survive, none of us will.” – Lara Croft
Sounds about what we played this year already, and that’s because the second world premiere from Spike’s VGX Awards is not exactly the sequel to Tomb Raider we were hoping for. However, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is going to be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at the end of January.
What makes this the definitive edition is a set of entirely new character models, new physics for trees, hair, water, and lightning and particle effects. We’re not sure this is worthy of a brand new package, but Tomb Raider was one of our favourite games of the year, so maybe it is worth it.
Crystal Dynamics also said that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has an engine that is the start for what we can only assume is the next generation of Lara Croft and the true sequel to Tomb Raider.
