Rarely throughout this entire year, perhaps even this entire hardware generation for the most part, has a DLC campaign received so much media attention and acclaim than that of Injustice: Gods Among Us, the highly successful DC-themed fighter released this past April!
After the confirmed expansion of the DLC roster beyond the planned four initial additions, fans of the DC Universe have constantly kept guessing which DC personalities may join the fan-favourite game next!
Developer, NetherRealm Studios’ creative director, Ed Boon held a fan poll following the recent release of Martian Manhunter into the game’s DLC roster, asking if there were more characters that fans would like to see in the game. It seems that the results are in, as NetherRealm has just confirmed the game’s sixth DLC fighter; The Mistress of Magic herself, Zatanna!
Zatanna narrowly beat out the also oft-requested Red Hood for the sixth DLC fighter spot. Her announcement comes with the usual reveal trailer, demonstrating her moveset and animation. Her distinct top hat, fishnets and magician’s vest are all well intact in her Injustice incarnation, as is her whimsical personality by the look of it!
If you’re unfamiliar with the character, Zatanna is a DC superheroine who derives her power from mastery of the art of magic. Occasionally working with the mainstream Justice League ensemble, Zatanna bewitches, charms and zaps her foes with all manner of magical conjuring. Her powers are activated by speaking incantations and spell commands backwards. She is a fan-favourite personality in many DC fan circles, and has appeared in numerous DC media outside of comic books as a result of her popularity. This includes a live-action incarnation on long-running Superman-themed television series, Smallville, portrayed by Canadian actress, Serinda Swan.
The great news of Zatanna’s induction into the Injustice roster gets better too, as she’s going to be made available as soon as next Tuesday, August 13th! Like Martian Manhunter, she will stand apart from the initial four DLC characters that are free to anyone who has purchased an Injustice Season Pass, costing $4.99 for PlayStation 3 players, and 400 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360 players, regardless.
Yes, Warner Bros. has yet again procrastinated with properly supporting the Wii U version of Injustice. While the initial four DLC characters were finally made available on Wii U in July, Martian Manhunter still only remains available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for now, with Zatanna also only releasing on those two platforms, and not Wii U to start. Hopefully, like the first four DLC characters, the omission of Zatanna and Martian Manhunter from Injustice’s Wii U edition is temporary.
Despite six DLC fighters now joining Injustice post-launch, at least on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, fan requests continue to pour in. Red Hood, an identity used by both The Joker pre-insanity, and the second Robin after he was believed killed by The Joker, continues to be a heavily requested DLC fighter. Also often requested are Superman nemesis, Darkseid, super-strong heroine, Power Girl, sonic-screaming Green Arrow missus, Black Canary, and shape-changing Plastic Man, among others.
Injustice: Gods Among Us is currently available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U, enjoying high acclaim and sales on all three platforms, even if the Wii U edition continues to lag on DLC.
We at Eggplante will continue to deliver you all of your Injustice news, as it strikes!
