Those Birds just can’t seem to work out their anger issues!
After last year’s widely adored revision, Angry Birds Star Wars, it’s unsurprising that developer, Rovio would want to collaborate with LucasArts, now owned by Disney, for a follow-up. Now, that follow-up has been made official. Angry Birds Star Wars II is coming to iOS devices on September 19th of this year.
Obviously, Angry Birds needs no introduction, and nor does Star Wars. Since the original Angry Birds came to mobile devices in late 2009, it has exploded with popularity! The game has received several revisions before its Star Wars crossover, including a spin-off that lets you play as the antagonistic pigs. As if that weren’t enough, Angry Birds apparel, plushies and other such merchandise has become commonplace. An Angry Birds feature film is even in development, for release on July 1st, 2016.
Angry Birds Star Wars II, predictably, will draw inspiration from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Various prequel ‘characters’ are being featured, including Mace Windu, Darth Maul, General Grievous, and, for what it’s worth, Jar-Jar Binks. Players will also be given the option to join the ‘Pork Side’ and play from the pigs’ perspective. The game will also support Telepods technology.
What’s telepod technology, you may ask? Well, it’s the foundation of the highly successful Skylanders franchise. It allows you to scan a toy and in turn utilize that toy in your game. In Angry Birds Star Wars II, the technology will allow you to alter your character depending on the toy you scan. Yes, it sounds like a pretty lame excuse to get kids twisting their parents’ arms for more Angry Birds toys, we’ll be honest.
Regardless, if you enjoy this particular mobile distraction, there’s more coming your way soon. In the meantime, we at Eggplante will be flinging you all of your Angry Birds and Star Wars news, as we can load it.
