Worried that you’ll miss Star Trek into Darkness due to a busy Summer schedule? Perhaps you just couldn’t get enough of J.J. Abrams’ long-awaited blockbuster sequel? Either way, if you own an Xbox 360, you may be in luck!
It seems that Star Trek into Darkness was quite deliberately chosen as an example of the Xbox One’s movie interaction capability, as Microsoft quietly confirmed afterward that the movie will be dropping early on Xbox Video. How early? Apparently, before the Summer is even up!
This may be predictable to many, considering that big movies releasing digitally before they see physical releases on DVD and Blu-Ray has become quite common in recent months especially. Still, if Microsoft bothered to post a disclaimer for the sole purpose of telling Xbox gamers that Star Trek into Darkness will be available before Summer has even concluded, it’s possible that they may have secured a deal with Paramount to get the earliest possible release on Xbox Video, in exchange for the promotion during the Xbox One reveal.
Most of the time, anything that releases early on Xbox Video also releases simultaneously as a digital offering on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita owners, but it’s not confirmed at this time if Star Trek into Darkness will also be getting a Summer home viewing bow on Sony’s services as well as Microsoft’s. We suppose that time will tell there.
You can currently catch Star Trek into Darkness in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theatres; The sequel to mega-hit 2009 blockbuster reboot, Star Trek. In the meantime, count on Eggplante to bring you more Star Trek-related news, as it develops!
