We’ve received a second bit of big casting news recently as Carrie Fisher has confirmed her return to Star Wars as Princess Leia in Episode VII, coming right after the news of Harrison Ford signing on for Anchorman 2.
When asked during an interview with Palm Beach Illustrated, Fisher confirmed that she’d be back to the franchise, and answered simply, “yes,” when asked if she’d return as Princess Leia. She was also asked about her iconic gold bikini and Leia’s current mindset, to which she responded, “Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”
The rumours have been swirling that the focus of the films would be on the children of Han Solo and Leia Organa, which would make sense given that the prequel movies were based around their parents (well, one of their parents). There’s no official word on what the film will be about, or if they’re writing the entire next trilogy in one batch or individually, but we can probably expect to hear news of Harrison Ford’s role reprisal as well, especially given his attachment to the film already.
Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the first films, may be returning as well, though no official word has been given. If Leia is written into the new movie, it’ll be interesting to see how Luke won’t be, but Hamill also hasn’t done a lot in film lately, though we did love him as the Joker in the Arkham game series.
Stay tuned for more info – including whether the gold bikini will be making an appearance – as we get it on Twitter and Facebook!
