HBO greenlights Silicon Valley comedy

This one flew right under our nerd radar a few weeks ago.

HBO has greenlit a comedy about making it rich in Silicon Valley and what happens in the aftermath of losing it all. Created by Mike Judge who created Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill and worked on Office Space, we don’t have many more details on the project other than that it will indeed be produced as at least one pilot episode.

The Silicon Valley community is a very diverse and competitive one, with the inclusion of some of the biggest companies in the world, including Apple, Google, and Hewlett-Packard. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the characters in the series will be based around real-life people, be completely fiction, or a mix of the two.

We do expect to see quite a few cameos on the show from people that would never usually appear on television in a sitcom or drama-comedy setting. People like Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking, and Sergey Brin could all make appearances or even become full-fledged characters, though we think their schedules might interfere with the latter.

We wish Judge all the success with this one as it does have the ability to become something much larger than just another show if done properly. The comedy tag doesn’t worry us as much as we thought it should, if only for the fact that shows such as The Office and 30 Rock have become so popular.

At this time, we don’t have any additional details, but will be curious to see if the show is set in the early days of Silicon Valley when there was really no penalty for starting up a business and failing, other than being out a few (thousand) dollars. We don’t know how successful the show can be if set in present day since the big players out there are all pretty much set in stone, but that’s also why we don’t write television shows.

We’ll keep you posted on all the goodies about this one!
