If you read Eggplante frequently, you might notice some recurring artists on the site. Not because they’re easy to get access to or because I don’t have any interests outside of the acts we talk to on Eggplante, but because they’re friends and great people. One such guy is Ian Blackwood who was kind enough to put on a short acoustic set at Canadian Music Week for passers by in the hotel lobby.
Ian is lead singer of The Artist Life, who I’ve written about a few times. He is one of the most genuinely down-to-earth guys I’ve ever met, and I don’t say that about just anyone. Listen to the band’s music and you’ll hear a rough edge that sounds heavy and rustic, but hear Ian play the exact same song acoustically and it takes on a different meaning. This man has talent, and he’s certainly worth watching out for. One thing is for sure: you can count on Eggplante being there as he climbs the ladder. Ian is going to be successful. And when it happens, he’ll be that much more humble about it.
